Love the Ones You’re With

By S.J. Perrault

A Women’s Fiction / Romance Crossover

A gripping,

emotionally charged journey of longing, awakening,

and the dangerous price of loving someone who can’t choose you back.

Love the Ones You’re With is a high-heat contemporary romance and women’s fiction crossover centered on a woman in her 40s navigating desire, emotional healing, and real-life relationship challenges. The novel blends deep character-driven storytelling, grown-up sensuality, and emotionally complex romantic tension, making it ideal for readers seeking romance for women 40+, steamy book club reads, and stories about self-worth, boundaries, and second chances.

Miranda Grace Ellison never wanted polyamory—she only agreed to “explore” it because she’s falling for Luke, a man who isn’t truly polyamorous either but who uses the idea of open relationships to protect himself from emotional intimacy. Their attempt to negotiate an arrangement neither of them wants becomes a catalyst for Miranda’s awakening, forcing her to confront what love should cost, what she’s willing to sacrifice, and what it finally means to choose herself.

“I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. This was such an amazing uplifting read!! It made me laugh, cry and wanted to shake some people. It will draw you in from the beginning!! Miranda is a divorcee with two children who is looking for her forever person! This was well written and absolutely loved it! This is definitely a must read!!”

_Melissa Mejia, Goodreads review

“Unputdownable. I love a story about a woman facing a turning point in her life. The story is written from the perspective of Miranda, divorce of two teenage children, trying to put herself back out in the dating pool. I love how you hear her inner thoughts and how she views herself, her insecurities, but you also get a picture of how the people in her life of view her in a completely different way: fun, free spirited, loving, and the life of the party. I find that to be so relatable, how our inner thoughts don't always reflect the person other people experience.

Miranda was such a relatable character. Her duality of craving truth while being unable to speak her own, navigating love, heartbreak, complex relationships made her feel real.

I am shook by how much I enjoyed this story. I could not wait to find out how everything unfolded for Miranda. She's written in a way where it's easy to get attached to her, maybe because at one point or another we all have been her.”

-GRLSH, Goodreads review

“I literally finished this five seconds ago and my emotions are all over the place. This book takes you on a JOURNEY! I felt all of the feelings and really connected with Miranda, I related on so many things that were very similar circumstances or comments she heard in her life. Her Ex reminded me of my Ex unfortunately (which goes to tell you they both suck)! I kept trying to figure out who the antagonist(s) were in this story and I still can’t tell you which character was the antagonist, I even think Miranda was as some points because she didn’t voice her own feelings so she worked against herself. It was very beautifully written, and I feel hopeful for the future.”

-Jessica, Bookbestiejessie, Goodreads review

Love the Ones You’re With is for anyone drawn to messy, honest, grown-woman romance with high heat, big heart, and a powerful journey of rediscovery.

At its core, Love the Ones You’re With explores the ways women lose themselves in love—and the strength it takes to rise again. With themes of midlife desire, emotional trauma, self-sacrifice, and personal rebirth, the novel delivers both unapologetic steam and rich women’s fiction depth. Miranda’s journey reflects the real questions many women face after 40: What do I want? What do I deserve? What happens when desire returns before self-worth does?

This story is grounded in emotional truth rather than fantasy, making it a strong choice for book clubs, fans of realistic relationship fiction, and readers who want romance that reflects actual modern dilemmas: commitment fears, complicated attraction, rebuilding after divorce, and the tension between longing and boundaries.

A character-driven, high-heat romance that delivers women’s fiction heart with contemporary romance heat.

About the Author

S.J. Perrault writes steamy, emotional stories of women reclaiming desire, power, and the life—and love—they deserve.

She creates emotionally rich, high-heat women’s fiction/romance crossovers about awakening—sexual, emotional, and spiritual. Her heroines are women who’ve been knocked down by life, love, betrayal, or responsibility… and who rise again through desire, honesty, connection, and the terrifying courage it takes to want more.

Her books blend deep emotional arcs with unapologetic steam—stories where vulnerability is sexy, strength is intimate, and a woman’s pleasure is part of her power.

S.J. also writes as Selene Castrovilla, the award-winning author of Luna Rising, winner of the Book Excellence Award for Chick Lit. Luna Rising is a closed-door women’s fiction novel with a deep emotional burn—one that paved the way for the hotter, bolder, more sensual fiction she now writes as S.J. Perrault.

No matter the heat level, she explores the same truth: a woman’s story expands the moment she decides to stop surviving and start living.

A second-chance romance for women who’ve lived enough to know what love really is.

“It’s too bad love isn’t enough.”
“Enough for what?”
“Enough to live happily ever after. It’s a shame there’s so much more to take into consideration.”

“He’s spry, buoyant. In a deadened world, he’s alive. He’s slim-built, not skinny. His eyes, impishly bright. He’s wearing a silver hooped earring and a shy and flirtatious smile. There’s contradiction in him—he’s a puzzle begging to be solved. Warmth radiates from his pores. In this man, I see home.”

“What is a memory? What do we remember, and what do we add in? It doesn’t matter. Who cares about where fact ends and imagination begins? It’s what remains that counts. It’s who we are as a result of that memory.”
